We had a great time at our summer triathlon in Waco, TX! We had three Rice participants in the triathlon who all did very well.
Even though we had small numbers, we had big results. Stephen Wallace ('08, Martel) won the 20-24 Sprint division with a time of 1:12:20. Willie Xu ('11, Lovett) completed his first triathlon (1:24:25) and came in 11th in his sprint division. I did the Olympic distance and got eighth in my division with a time of 2:48:27. The course was great but challenging. We had a nice calm swim in the Brazos River and a flat bike through the country parts of Waco. The run proved to be the most challenging part (at least for me). It was a shaded run through the parks that ran with the Brazos River, but after the Sprint distance turnaround I was challenged with multiple hills through a convoluted path through the park. The finish was an amazing last few yards across the oldest suspension bridge in Texas!
Good job to Stephen and Willie!
Also a special thanks goes to Amy Nguyen who took some AWESOME pics of RUCT at the event!
